Turn Off the Central Air-Use a Portable Air Conditioner

Have you ever noticed that people generally like to be comfortable.  They have a small range of temperature fluctuation that they would normally tolerate before complaining.  Most people demand a temperature around seventy degrees within their homes or apartments.  For decades you would commonly see old and ugly window air conditioners blocking the view of many windows in a home.  Even in areas where temperatures only rose about eighty degrees a week or so during the year, people still wanted their comfort.  It wasn’t uncommon to walk down any street and see those air conditioners poping out of every window.

Fortunately, modern technology has made those large, view blocking window air conditioners ancient history.  The best options today for air conditioning a single room is a portable air conditioner.  The new portable air conditioners offer the ability to comfortably cool a single room which can save you a ton of money.  This is a great way to save on your electricity costs during the summer months.  Those large window air conditioners simply were inefficient.

Those of us who have central air conditioning might love the convenience but depending upon your house, central air certainly has drawbacks.  I have a central air conditioning system that is rated as a high efficiency unit.  But, my split level home offers a bit of a challenge to the system.  While it does an excellent job of cooling the lower floor, the second floor which is home to a bed room and my office is always at least ten degrees warmer.  So you have a choice of lowering the thermostat which makes the first floor uncomfortable or just suffering with the higher temperature on that second floor.  Another problem is many home owners only live in a couple rooms of their homes and feel its wasteful to cool the entire house.

For example, my wife and I like a cool bedroom for sleeping at night but hate the idea of cooling the entire home.  It simply seems like a waste of energy.  Utility bills aside, some of us enjoy fresh air whenever possible.  We decided to purchase a portable air conditioner to use in our master bedroom.  Our unit includes a remote control and timer which is a great option.  This function enables us to have a cool bedroom and only use the central air a couple weeks out of the year.  It also saves significantly on the energy bills.

Installation is fast and easy to setup in almost any room.  The better units have a self-evaporative technology which results in hours of continuous operation without excessive condensate buildup.  Another benefit is that many portable air conditioners will dehumidify the room and they will also filter the air.  Personally speaking, I especially like the convenience of setting the timer and thermostat and simply forgetting about it.  So if you are looking for a convenient and inexpensive way to cool your home or apartment, I highly recommend the new portable air conditioners.  You can even buy portable air conditioners on the internet and have them delivered to your door in a day or two.
